5 Questions with NCCI’s Jon Sinclair on Opioids, AIS

NCCI's Annual Insights Symposium takes the stage next week, and we were lucky to borrow some time from Jon Sinclair, who will be presenting If Not Opioids, Then What? on May 14 at 10:45 a.m. EDT. Here's what attendees can look forward to from Sinclair's session.

Q. Why is the topic of this session important for the industry?  

JS: Pain is a part of nearly every injured worker’s story. Understanding pain management provides a deeper understanding of past changes and insights into potential future impacts.   

Q. Who stands to gain the most from attending this session?  

JS: This session has a little something for everyone. Whether you are an executive wondering how new headline drugs may fit into workers comp, an insurance professional wanting to understand the impacts to claim cost, or a regulator interested in emerging treatments and how they fit into the regulatory framework, this session covers a wide range of topics. 

Q. In a nutshell, what will this session cover?  

JS: This session covers the evolution of pain management and the impact to workers compensation.  

Q. What about your journey in the industry has been the key (or keys) for your understanding this topic and explaining it to others?  

JS: I have spent the last six years at NCCI learning everything and anything medical. Through my work analyzing fee schedules, producing medical reports, authoring thought leadership articles, and working with medical experts I have developed a deep level of medical knowledge in workers compensation.  

Q. What about your role in the industry makes you proud to be delivering this session to the AIS audience?  

JS: My role at NCCI is to help to maintain a healthy and effective workers compensation system. I take pride in communicating complex issues into clear, actionable insights to help our stakeholders to make informed decisions.
