Case Management Focus
Workers' Compensation Case Managers are doing excellent work in their roles. In these disruptive times, sharing your success is essential. In this post, I want to encourage you to share your wins, your challenges, and what you did to resolve them. Here are some ideas!
Speaking at a National or Regional Conference
Submit a call for papers to be present at a national or regional conference. The Case Management Society of America (CMSA) has a call for papers for the 2026 conference, which will take place June 16-19, 2026, in Las Vegas. Here is the link to review and discuss with your team what practices you can share: https://cmsa.societyconference.com/v2. Review the guidelines, discuss with your team, and think of what you would like to share in a future edition.
The state of Florida has a Regional Chapter, the All Florida Case Management Network, which offers monthly webinars. We are always looking for topics and stories on Best Practices, so email me if you would like to present a webinar at one of our monthly webinars in 2026. Workers' Comp is a topic we have not covered, and we would love to have a few interesting programs in the area of workers' comp. Email me at allewellyn48@gmail.com, and we can discuss your ideas and set you up for one of our monthly webinars.
There are other national and regional conferences you can also consider. The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, and your State Workers' Compensation Conference are just a few ideas you can investigate.
Get Published: Telling your story in a national publication is a terrific way to share your knowledge, expertise, and innovations. As a workers' compensation case manager, you are viewed as a subject matter expert. Writing is a terrific way to share information and help others who are struggling with the same issues you have.
Please do not be shy; it is great to see your article in an official publication! Here are a few opportunities you can consider.
The Case Management Society of America has an official publication called CMSA Today. Here is a link to the editorial guidelines. Read them over, and if you have any questions, let me know. https://cmsatoday.com/author-guidelines. I was chair of the editorial board for a number of years, so let me know if I can help you and answer any questions.
Pen a Blog Post on the CMSA Blog post page. These articles are usually shorter, about 400-500 words. Here is the link to the Blog Page. https://cmsa.org/publications/blog Read over some of the posts and decide what you want to share.
Social media: My preference for social media is LinkedIn, as it caters to professionals. They have several groups that focus specifically on Workers' Compensation. Here are a few you can check out: Nurses in Workers' Compensation, Work Compensation Adjustors, and Nurses and Return to Work Resources Forum. I learn a lot from reading posts and contributing when I have a suggestion or idea that can help someone. Check them out!
If you work with an employer and they have a newsletter, ask if you can write an article about the role of the case manager. This will help employees know what you do and how you can help them if they are injured on the job.
I hope you will take advantage of these opportunities. They are part of your professional development and look great on a resume! If I can help you in any way, let me know. Please email me at allewellyn48@gmail.com
