Safety at Work
Memphis, TN (WorkersCompensation.com) – Police in Memphis are looking for two women they say assaulted a restaurant employee.
According to the Memphis Police Department, officers responded to an assault call at the Texas Roadhouse on May 10. The victim, an employee, was greeting customers at the front of the restaurant when she was confronted by two customers. Police said the situation escalated until one of the customers threw a wooden toothpick holder at the employee. As the two customers were leaving, they threatened to return with a gun and “air the place out.”
Employees said the two women left in a black SUV. The employee was hit in the head and treated at the scene, police said.
In Wilmington, N.C., a man was accused of violently attacking. Pizza shop employee.
Delaware State Police said 30-year-old Auston Pratt is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting the employee earlier this month. Troopers were called to Lucy’s Restaurant around 9:40 on May 7 for a report of a disorderly customer.
Police said Pratt had allegedly entered the building and started arguing with staff members. When employees asked him to leave, Pratt allegedly refused and threatened to kill one of the staff members. When the physical altercation that followed escalated, Pratt reportedly punched the victim several times and put his arms around the employee’s neck, choking him.
Police said the victim and Pratt were separated before they arrived, and they were able to take Pratt into custody. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Pratt was treated at the hospital for minor injuries as well. He was charged with felony strangulation, assault in the third degree, terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct.
In Nashville, a man working at a rescue mission is recovering after being shot by a resident while working.
According to Metro Nashville Police, Tadarius Milan Hunt, 29, was wanted on charges of attempted homicide and use of a gun in a dangerous felony.
Police said they were called to the Nashville Rescue Mission on May 11 for an assault. Sam Siple, the mission’s vice president of development and marketing, said the victim, a 44-year-old security lead for men’s guest services, was clearing out the day room for cleaning. Hunt was at the mission and was apparently uncooperative, officials said, When the victim told Hunt he had to leave or law enforcement would be called, Hunt eventually left but was spotted hiding in the bushes outside of the mission.
At the end of the victim’s shift, Hunt allegedly came out of the main door and fired seven shots, Siple said. The suspect then allegedly walked away before coming back later and firing again. MNPD said the victim was shot multiple times in the chest and legs.
Siple identified the victim as Cedrick Wilson.
“Cedrick is known for his heart and dedication to the men we serve each day,” the mission said in a statement. “While we can’t always prevent what happens beyond our doors, the safety of our staff and guests is our top priority. We are grateful for the ongoing efforts to maintain a secure environment for everyone at our facilities.”
Hunt was later shot by police during a shootout.
On Monday morning, May 12, police said Hunt, who was armed with a semi-automatic pistol, engaged officers in a shootout. He was taken to a nearby hospital but later died of his injuries.
MNPD Spokesman Don Aaron said bodycam video of the officer involved in the shooting showed Hunt jogging toward the Division Street Bridge near the Gulch. When officers demanded that he stop and show his hands, Hunt continued to jog toward another officer who also demanded that he stop.
Instead, Hunt pulled a weapon from his waistband and fired a shot towards the officers. Both of the officers returned fire, and Hunt was shot multiple times.
“In the coming days the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office will continue to investigate and analyze this incident,” a spokesperson for the MNPD said.
