In anticipation of NCCI's Annual Insights Symposium coming up, we connected with Sandra Kipust, who provided a preview of her Industry Drill Down session, happening May 13 at 11 a.m. EDT.
Q. In a nutshell, what will this session cover?
SK: This session focuses on industry-specific trends and how shifts in claims frequency may impact sectors differently. We’ll drill down into four industries -- Combined Office, Leisure & Hospitality, Health Care and Private Education.
Q. Why is the topic of this session important for the industry?
SK: Workers and workplaces are safer today than ever before yet understanding the nuances at an industry-level can uncover both opportunities and challenges within the overall workers compensation system.
Based on stakeholder feedback, we decided to provide industry-level trend analyses and insights using NAICS codes. Last year at AIS, we covered Construction, Manufacturing, Transportation & Warehousing, Retail Trade, and Wholesale Trade. Since then, we’ve released a series of industry insights that provides a segmented look at premium share, frequency, and employment levels.
Q. Who stands to gain the most from attending this session?
SK: While stakeholders have an understanding of overall trends within the WC system, this session will deliver deeper insights into industry-specific patterns and nuances.
Q. What about your journey in the industry has been the key (or keys) for your understanding this topic and explaining it to others?
SK: Decades of experience working in the WC industry has provided me with a unique perspective that enables me to communicate practical insights based on trends our team has identified in NCCI’s data.
The workers compensation system has a wealth of world-class data to power our insights. Our stakeholders’ investments in reporting medical and indemnity data to NCCI enables us to analyze trends and better understand the road ahead.
Q. What about your role in the industry makes you proud to be delivering this session to the AIS audience?
All of it! NCCI’s mission is to foster a healthy workers compensation system. I am proud to contribute to this mission, which ultimately supports the safety and well-being of workers nationwide.
