Sarasota, FL (WorkersCompensation.com) -

1) A Few Tips On the Eve of NWCDC

The National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference (NWCDC) will officially start tomorrow at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas, with a few events happening today. One pre-NWCDC event includes a pre-conference session at 10:30 a.m. aiming to guide new attendees through what the conference is all about, and how to prioritize what you want to go to. Another event, hosted by The Alliance of Women in Workers’ Compensation, starts at 1:30 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Click here for the agenda. Another tip: Download the NWCDC app… it has an agenda option, and could help with organizing all the options for the conference and expo. Click here to read up on WorkersCompensation.com pre-event coverage, and follow us here and on Twitter at @wcconnections for a timely look at all the Vegas happenings.

2) In Vegas Before NWCDC? Attend a Golf Tourney for a Good Cause

Kids' Chance will hold a charity golf event before NWCDC this year, which commences this morning with tee off at 8:30 a.m. Kids Chance is a great program that works to get scholarships to children of parents who have been seriously injured or killed while on the job. For more information, click here. WorkersCompensation.com President and CEO Bob Wilson also wrote about the event in a recent Cluttered Desk blog post, here. It might be too late to play, but it isn’t too late to show your support.

3) MO Lawsuit: Former PreCoat Metals Employee Alleges he was Fired Because of his Head Injury

St. Louis resident Ayton Wolfehart has filed a lawsuit against Precoat Metals, claiming he hurt his head during basketball outside of work in 2016, and came back to work in 2017, writes Angelica Saylo Pilo of the St. Louis Record. “…He alleges he requested training so he could properly perform his work and that the training was insufficient. He also alleges the defendant refused to accept off-work slips from his nurse practitioner,” per the article. He was terminated in October 2017, per the suit, and Wolfehart claims it is because of his disability. He requests damages at $250G, and court costs.

4) TX Resident Claims he was Hurt While Working on Lady Geneva Vessel

Jimmy Diaz of Houston has filed a lawsuit against A. Perez Jr., individually and doing business as Lady Geneva, alleging “…he sustained serious and debilitating injuries to his knee, thigh, lower leg and other parts of the body when a piece of metal scratched and punctured his skin,” due to an unsafe work environment, writes Kristine Gonzales-Abella of the Southeast Texas Record. He claims the employer didn’t inspect or maintain the boat’s equipment in a proper manner, and he wasn’t given safety tools to complete his job. “…The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million,” per the article.
