1) 37 OH Employers Recognized for Workplace Safety Excellence

“Thirty-seven employers in the Salem area have earned recognition from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) for reaching a year without workplace injuries or illnesses that kept workers away from work for more than a day. The employers received BWC’s 100 Percent Award during the Salem Area Safety Council’s annual awards ceremony,” according to a Salem News article. The 37 recipients included Catapuss Veterinary Services LLC, Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association and Solomon’s Scrap and Salvage. Other awards included the Special Award for Safety Recognition, that requires employers to have “…at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without an injury resulting in a day or more away from work,” per the article.

2) DMEC to Host Webinar on Employer Disability Best Practices

The Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) will host a webinar entitled, “Employer Disability Best Practices” THIS Thursday, May 10 at 12 p.m. EST, according to an emailed press release written by DMEC Media Consultant John Jordan. “…Presenters from The Guardian Life Insurance Company will discuss how to identify opportunities, craft policies, and balance different parties’ needs. There will be particular emphasis on the difference in approach between claims involving physical limitations and those involving mental illness issues,” writes Jordan. 3) Next Up for Out Front Ideas: A Workplace Violence Webinar

Safety National and Sedgwick will sponsor a webinar entitled “Workplace Violence: Assessment and Response,” on Tuesday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CST, according to an emailed press release. Kimberly George, SVP of Corporate Development, M&A and Healthcare at Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc.; and Mark Walls, VP Communications & Strategic Analysis with Safety National, host the Out Front Ideas series. 5) WV: Former 7-11 Employee Alleges a Hostile Work Environment, Among Other Accusations, in Lawsuit

Charleston resident Cindy Daggs has filed a lawsuit against 7-Eleven Inc. and Sandra Hart, with hostile workplace and wrongful termination allegations, writes Philip Gonzales of the West Virginia Record. “…The plaintiff alleges the defendants wrongfully discharged her for reporting gender-based sexual harassment by her co-employees to upper management …and then replaced her with a male employee,” according to the article. “As a result, the suit says, she has suffered lost wages and benefits, emotional distress, mental anguish, embarrassment and humiliation.” Daggs requests damages, court costs, and any other relief.
