WTC Scientific Committee Votes 8-7 to Exclude Prostate Cancer from Zadroga Act
28 Mar, 2012 WorkersCompensation.com
After much discussion, and by a razor thin margin, the WTC STAC Committee voted 8-7 at their meeting today (3/28/12) to exclude prostate cancer from the list of 9/11 related illnesses they will recommend be included under the Zadroga Act in their upcoming report to NIOSH Director John Howard, MD.
This is despite the fact that prostate cancer was included in the initial draft report. However, there remains the possibility that prostate cancer could still be covered under the catch all "Rare Cancer" inclusion for men diagnosed prior to age 40 (which is rare).
Also after much discussion, the Committee did recommend that breast cancer be included, although it was not included the original draft report, despite limited medical evidence supporting the inclusion.
