Removing the Boundaries of Risk Management at RIMS 2012

13 Apr, 2012 Bob Wilson

The annual RIMS Conference, which opens in Philadelphia this Sunday, seeks to expand awareness of risk management beyond the accepted realm of the risk professional, to help employers and the industry, in their words, "innovatively minimize risks". It is, to me, a refreshingly innovative concept, and I look forward to seeing how their extensive agenda will meet that goal.

One of the things that impresses me most this year is RIMS 2012 Community Service Day, this year benefiting "Cradles To Crayons". On Sunday, April 15th, 100 risk professionals are expected to take part, assembling care-packages for local charity Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit that provides essentials to underprivileged children in the Philadelphia area.  The event, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., is sponsored by Zurich and will officially kick-off RIMS 2012 Annual Conference & Exhibition.

RIMS has also embraced the digital age fully, with a slick app that allows attendees to organize their time and efforts directly on their smartphone or PDA. RIMS '12 Mobile App will also let attendees get live event updates, interactive floor maps, and exhibitor collateral.

Of course, I am most distressed that I will miss the great Philly Cheese Steak hunt being assembled Saturday evening by Safety National's Mark Walls, since I don't arrive until Sunday. My waistline will probably be all the better for that loss.

There is a lot happening next week, and I look forward to bringing you more info "as it unfolds". If you want more information on this conference, you can go to
