OSHA extends COVID-19 National Emphasis Program

OSHA is extending its National Emphasis Program to protect employees from COVID-19. Through the program, enforcement efforts are focused on businesses with employees at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. Additionally, the agency is temporarily increasing its inspection goal by 5%.

Results from CVSA brake inspections

On April 27, CVSA inspected over 9,000 commercial motor vehicles during an unannounced event, Brake Safety Day. Of the trucks and buses inspected, 14% were placed out of service for brake-related violations. The organization is planning more inspections in August for Brake Safety Awareness Month.

MSHA asks industry to be proactive on silica hazards

It’s estimated that 2.3 million employees are exposed to silica dust annually. While the agency works toward a regulation on respirable crystalline silica, MSHA leaders are asking employees and mine operators to address silica exposures proactively and utilize best practices.
