Oil Refinery Owners Accused of Having Unsafe Work Enviroment

The owners of a Madison County, Illinois oil refinery are being accused of providing an unsafe work environment by a construction worker who was allegedly injured on the job.

According to The Madison/St. Clair Record, Kevin Fones filed a lawsuit last month in Madison County Circuit Court against the ConocoPhillips Company. The general contractor, Bechtel Construction Company, and the safety consulting firm, Safety Partners Ltd., are also named as defendants. (WCxKit)

According to Fones, he was employed by Plocher Construction in September 2010 and working for Bechtel Construction on a project at ConocoPhillips Wood River refinery. At the time of the alleged incident, Fones claims he was loading forms on a trailer when it collapsed, leading to injuries.

Fones accuses ConocoPhillips and Bechtel of negligence and claims Safety Partners did not properly inspect the trailer or warn of its dangers. He is seeking more than $150,000 in damages for his injuries, lost wages and court costs.
