Ypsilanti Manufacturer Cited for MIOSHA Violations Totaling $265,600 in Proposed Penalties

Lansing,MI.(WorkersCompensation.com) – The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) issued 19 citations to Ypsilanti automotive exhaust component manufacturer Bosal Industries Georgia Inc. for alleged violations of worker safety and health provisions totaling $265,600 in penalties. MIOSHA is part of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
MIOSHA’s General Industry Safety and Health Division conducted an inspection at the Ypsilanti facility located at 1476 Seaver Way in response to an employee complaint alleging numerous safety and health hazards. As a result of the inspection, citations were issued for eight serious, six repeat serious, three other-than-serious, and two repeat other-than-serious violations involving the following standards:
- Part 1, General Provisions
- Part 1A, Abrasive Wheels
- Part 2, Floor and Wall Openings, Stairways and Skylights
- Part 6, Fire Exits
- Part 12, Cutting Welding
- Part 17, Refuse Packer Units
- Part 21, Powered Industrial Trucks
- Part 26, Metalworking Machinery
- Part 40, Safety-Related Work Practices
- Part 85, The Control of Hazardous Energy Sources (Lockout/Tagout)
- Part 92, Hazard Communication
MIOSHA also conducted seven inspections at the facility from 2010 to 2016, resulting in 61 citations totaling $154,950 in proposed penalties.
The company has 15 working days from receipt of the citations to comply or contest the violations and penalties.
