Workplace Safety Education, Expert Speakers, Live Demos to Highlight OH BWC Conference

Columbus, OH (WorkersCompensation.com) - The 2017 Ohio Safety Congress and Expo (OSC17) will run March 8-10 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The annual event sponsored by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) offers employers and workers access to more than 200 educational sessions and an expo marketplace featuring hundreds of exhibitors at no cost.

"BWC proudly hosts the largest regional workplace safety and health conference in the United States each year," said BWC Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison. "Education and awareness are key to preventing workplace accidents and injuries, and there is no better place to go for the latest on how to keep Ohio workers safe, healthy and productive."

Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor will kick off OSC17 during the opening general session Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. Another featured speaker, Dale Hull, M.D., MPA, was paralyzed in 1999 and received rehabilitation that, over time, brought him to his feet. He later joined his therapist to create a nonprofit outpatient physical therapy clinic.

A complete listing of general sessions and speakers is available on the OSC17 website.

Educational sessions will be presented by experts from across the country, covering topics related to occupational safety and health, wellness, rehabilitation, controlling claims costs and medical treatment of injured workers. Several sessions feature live demonstrations, including:

  • The YRC Freight/Ohio State Highway Patrol No-Zone demonstration gives the public the opportunity to actually sit in the driver seat of a semi-tractor trailer to learn about blind spots and how the motoring public can drive more safely around the many commercial vehicles encountered daily on America's highways.
  • A live mobile crane demonstration showing hands-on load handling techniques, crane setup and inspection, rigging techniques and safely attaching a load to the crane hook.
  • The Smoke, Fire and Water demonstration that allows participants to use a fire extinguisher on a live fire, see a live demonstration of how fire sprinklers operate, and crawl through a fire safety house.

Attendance is free for Ohio employers and their employees. Students are also welcome to attend educational sessions.
