Madison, WI (WorkersCompensation.com) - Wisconsin Safety Council – the state’s leading provider of safety training and products – is celebrating Week 3 (June 17-21) of Safety Month, which highlights the hazard of fatigue. Fatigue is more common than one may think. Ninety-seven percent of workers have at least one risk factor for fatigue.
To increase awareness of how you may be affected by fatigue, the Safety Council produced a short video, featuring Safety Manager Chevon Cook, that informs individuals about the risks of fatigue and tips to stay safe. That video and others can be viewed here.
Here are some tips to avoid feeling fatigued in the workplace:
- Aim for at least 7 hours of sleep each day
- Talk to a supervisor or HR representative if you are too tired to work safely
- Don’t accept fatigue as your normal
- Avoid alcohol
- Only drink caffeine in the morning
“We all experience fatigue at some point in our life,” said Cook. “It’s important to recognize when we feel fatigued, determine what is causing it and work to prevent it from becoming repetitive.”
