UT Labor Commissioner Appoints New Director Of Adjudication Division

Salt Lake City, UT (WorkersCompensation.com) – Utah Commissioner Sherrie Hayashi of the Utah Labor Commission has announced the appointment of Heather E. Gunnarson, as the new Director of the Adjudication Division for the Utah Labor Commission.

Ms. Gunnarson graduated from the J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, and is an attorney licensed to practice in Utah. In 2006 she was appointed as the Director for the Utah AntiDiscrimination & Labor Division (UALD), by Governor Huntsman. Prior to her appointment as Director of UALD, Ms. Gunnarson was a litigation partner in the law firm of Hoole & King, L.C.

Gunnarson is also a past President of the Utah Employment Lawyers Association, a former member of the Advisory Committee on Sexual Harassment with the National Employment Lawyers Association, and filled a Judicial internship with the Utah Supreme Court.

“I look forward to working with the bright and talented members of the Adjudication Division, as we strive to serve the residents of Utah with the expertise and honor expected from government.” Gunnarson said.

“As one of my first initiatives, the Division will be adopting its own Code of Judicial Conduct, similar to the code of ethical conduct to which trial and appellate judges in Utah adhere. I will also be meeting with stakeholders to listen to and appropriately address concerns they have with the adjudicative process. It is my goal to lead a Division that is known for its professionalism, integrity, fairness and transparency.” Gunnarson stated.

“I have the utmost confidence in Heather's capabilities and leadership. These qualities combined with her clear vision of the needs of the division, will assure the public that the Adjudication division remains committed to serving the people of the State of Utah.” Commissioner Hayashi stated. “Heather's experience on both sides of the litigation process, open management style and experience with process improvement lends a great balance to the oversight of the Division.”
