Berkley,WV (WorkersCompensation.com) - Partnership description: The partnership seeks to prevent worker injuries and exposure to hazards by developing a public-private approach to safety and health during construction of a three-mile, four-lane highway in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. The project includes construction of a roadway bypass, three million cubic yards of excavation and construction of three bridges.

Additionally, it will assist contractors in developing and implementing safety and health management systems, and providing training to employees, employers and supervisors. The two-year project is expected to include 20 to 25 contractors who will employ approximately 50 to 75 workers at peak construction.

Background: OSHA Health and Safety partnerships are part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s ongoing efforts to improve workers’ safety and health through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. Since 2001, the department’s OSHA has created more than 500 partnerships with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.

Quotes: “OSHA’s partnership with Trumbull Corp. will help prevent worker injuries and fatalities by putting comprehensive safety and health management systems in place for contractors and subcontractors on area construction sites," said OSHA Area Director Blake McEnany in Charleston, West Virginia. “While each partnership is unique, they all demonstrate a commitment to ensuring each worker returns home safely, every day.”

“Our family of companies have been proactively involved in federal and state voluntary compliance programs on key projects for over 15 years. The Berkeley Springs Bypass project will be our 13th partnership and our first in the heavy and highway sector. We welcome another opportunity to work with OSHA and our trade subcontractors to encourage joint cooperation and foster a safe work environment for all project workers,” said Trumbull Corp. Vice President of Safety Joseph Franceschini.
