St.Louis,MO( Background: In Missouri, OSHA Area Office Directors Karena Lorek in Kansas City and William McDonald in St. Louis signed an alliance renewal on Dec. 29, 2022, with Missouri Association of Manufacturers Executive Director Michael Eaton to improve workplace safety in the industry. Their action renews an alliance first signed in October 2020.

The alliance will continue to assist association members as they develop training and education programs to address common hazards in the manufacturing industry. These hazards include amputations, lacerations, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, heat stress, falls, struck-by, caught-in/between, ergonomics and electrical safe work practices.

Members will use injury, illness and hazard exposure data to help identify areas of emphasis for awareness, outreach and training. They will also continue to share information on OSHA campaigns to encourage workplace safety and will facilitate understanding of the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

The OSHA Alliance Program enables organizations to enter voluntarily into a cooperative relationship to raise awareness of OSHA’s initiatives, outreach, communications, training and education.

Quote: “Alliance partnerships provide a collaborative framework for using industry and professional resources to ensure workplaces are safe for everyone involved,” explained OSHA Area Director Karena Lorek in Kansas City, Missouri. “By renewing their alliance with OSHA for another two years, the Missouri Association of Manufacturers and its members will have access to training and education to better understand common manufacturing hazards and the precautions needed to keep workers safe.”
