Texas Gov. Names Alcantar Chair Of Texas Workforce Commission

                               Dallas, TX (WorkersCompensation.com) - Gov. Rick Perry has named Andres Alcantar of Pflugerville chair of the Texas Workforce Commission effective May 1, 2012, for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor. The commission oversees and provides workforce development services to employers and job seekers throughout the state.

Alcantar is currently commissioner of the Texas Workforce Commission, a position he has held since his appointment in August 2008. He is former deputy director of the Governor's Office Budget, Planning and Policy Division, which advises the governor on federal, state and local issues, and provides executive oversight to state boards and commissions. He is also a former advisor in Governor George W. Bush's Office of Budget and Planning on workforce and health and human service issues, and former director of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Strategic Planning Division.

Alcantar received a bachelor's degree and a Master of Public Administration from Texas Tech University.
