Texas Gov. Appoints Three To Texas Medical Board

                               Austin, TX (WorkersCompensation.com) - Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Texas Medical Board. The board protects and enhances the public's health, safety and welfare by establishing and maintaining standards of excellence used in regulating the practice of medicine, and ensuring quality health care for the citizens of Texas.

Carlos Gallardo of Frisco is a senior manager of recruiting at DynCorp International in Ft. Worth. He is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and Rotary International, and a past member of the North Texas Society of Human Resource Management, North Texas Speakers Association, and Rocky Mountain and Southwest associations of Colleges and Employers. He is also a past board member of the Frisco YMCA and the Youth Leadership Program of Frisco, and a past member and past vice chair of the City of Frisco Urban Forestry Board. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Gallardo received a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and attended graduate studies at Webster University. He is appointed for a term to expire April 13, 2017.

William "Roy" Smythe of Belton is chairman of surgery and medical director for Scott and White Healthcare's Office of Innovation, and a professor and chair of surgery at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. He is a member of the American and Southern Surgical associations, Association for Academic Surgery, Society of University Surgeons, American Association of Thoracic Surgery, and Society of Clinical Surgery. He is also a fellow and Texas state regional governor of the American College of Surgeons, and a board member of the Scott and White Healthcare System Foundation. Smythe received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University, a medical degree from the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, and completed his clinical research and health policy fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He is appointed for a term to expire April 13, 2018.

Paulette Southard of Alice is a retired teacher and community volunteer. She is secretary-treasurer of the Texas Medical Board, a board member and past president of the Christus Spohn Hospital of Alice Board of Directors, and past president of the Alice Chamber of Commerce and Alice Rotary Club. She is also past chair of the City of Alice Transportation Committee, past president of the Alice Classroom Teachers Association, a past board member of the National Cutting Horse Association, and a past member of the National and Texas Real Estate associations. Southard received a bachelor's degree from Baylor University. She is being reappointed for a term to expire April 13, 2015.
