TDI: Three Companies Earn Safety Awards

Austin, TX (WorkersCompensation.com) - The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) recognized three Texas companies for exemplary workplace safety programs and low rates of work-related injuries and illnesses by renewing their Lone Star Safety Awards. The companies include Boat Hoist USA in Longview, Kent Moore Cabinets in Bryan, and Rusk County Electric Cooperative in Henderson.

Boat Hoist USA manufactures boat lifts. The company has 30 employees at its Longview facility. Boat Hoist USA received their first Lone Star Award in October 2017. The company’s management team continues to create a proactive work environment and a safety program that provides motivation and opportunities for employee input. The result is a strong safety culture that actively involves employees and recognizes them for reporting, analyzing, and mitigating safety concerns. In March 2018, Boat Hoist USA also received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) designation by the state and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Kent Moore Cabinets is a cabinet manufacturer with 184 employees at its Bryan facility. Kent Moore Cabinets previously received the Lone Star Award in October 2017. The company continues to display a strong safety culture as evident through their management and employee commitment in overseeing effective policies and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy working environment. 

Rusk County Electric Cooperative is a member-owned power distributor with 71 employees at its Henderson facility. Rusk County Electric Cooperative first received the Lone Star Award in March 2015. The company provides a strong safety culture that involves both management and employees; conducts comprehensive self-inspections, hazard anticipation, detection, and prevention; and has established company-wide core values that promote safety, health performance, and responsibility. A SHARP certification was awarded to the company in July 2019.
