Austin, TX (CompNewsNetwork) - The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation (TDI-DWC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently recognized 2 Texas employers for their outstanding safety programs. Selkirk Corporation in Winters, TX and Axxiom Manufacturing of Fresno, TX received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) awards for low incidences of work-related injuries and illnesses and participation in TDI-DWC's Occupational Safety and Health Consultation (OSHCON) program.
Selkirk Corporation manufactures chimney, venting and air distribution products for the commercial and residential heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and hearth industries at facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The corporation's AirMate Product Manufacturing Facility in Winters employs 200 people and manufactures grilles, registers and diffusers for HVAC systems. In addition to the recognition, the Selkirk Corporation worksite has been granted a one-year exemption from programmed OSHA inspections.
Axxiom Manufacturing employs 48 people and manufactures abrasive blasting equipment, moisture separators, air dryers, aftercoolers and several types of storage and transfer systems. The company also manufactures a wide range of round and rectangular storage hoppers and receiving bins. In addition to the recognition, Axxiom Manufacturing has been granted a one-year exemption from programmed OSHA inspections.
SHARP, an award designed by the U.S. Department of Labor, recognizes excellence in occupational safety and health among small, private sector Texas employers. Employers that receive consultation services from the OSHCON program may be eligible for SHARP status if they have less than 250 employees at a worksite and less than 500 corporate-wide; have operations limited to a fixed worksite; have worked with OSHCON for at least one year; involve employees in the consultation process; correct all hazards identified by a OSHCON consultation; and have days away restricted time (DART) and total case rate (TCR) below the national averages for their industries.
OSHCON is a free service designed to help employers understand and comply with OSHA standards through safety inspections conducted by the TDI-DWC's professional consultants. Employers can receive many benefits from participating in the OSHCON program including: prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses; confirmation to their employees and customers of their commitment to safety; public acknowledgement of their safety efforts; money savings to the company by reducing workers compensation costs, and other costs associated with work-related injuries and illnesses; protection of company assets: employees, equipment, supplies, products, and facilities; and exemption from OSHA programmed inspections.
