Austin, TX (WorkersCompensation.com) - The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation (TDI-DWC) will present a regional workplace safety workshop for employers and employees on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Norris Conference Center at 9990 Richmond Avenue in Houston. The Houston Safety Summit is one of several Regional Safety Summits offered by the TDI-DWC in multiple regions around the state. The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $99 per person and includes coffee and snacks.
According to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), incidents involving violence and other injuries by persons or animals and contact with objects and equipment ranked as two of the most frequent causes of work-related fatalities in Texas in 2011, accounting for 136 deaths. The TDI-DWC Regional Safety Summits address these and other safety issues commonly encountered in the workplace, including:
- Workplace Violence Prevention: Recognizing and Defusing Potential Violence; Securing the Workplace; Safely Hiring and Firing; and Preventing School Violence;
- Safety Essentials for General Industry: Avoiding Falls and Falling Object Hazards; Industrial Vehicles and Pedestrian Safety; and GHS: The New Hazard Communication Standard;
- Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Recovery: Appropriate steps to take prior to and following a workplace disaster; best practices; and scenario practical application; and
- Injury Reporting and Recording Compliance: Information on OSHA's and the TDI-DWC's recording requirements and criteria for injury and illnesses.
Employers and employees attending the Houston Safety Summit will be able to choose the sessions most valuable to their industry and workplace.
