Redmond to Host Workplace Safety and Health Conference

Salem, OR (WorkersCompensation.com) - Redmond will host the annual Central Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Conference on Sept. 19-20, 2012, with the theme “ Spotlight on change in safety and health.” The conference is being held at the Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond.

Oregon's Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, encourages workers and employers to attend the event to help improve safety and health performance. Transforming the workplace can help organizations reduce injuries and accidents, and decrease workers' compensation costs.

Some of the topics featured at this year's conference include:

• Effective hazard identification
• Wellness at work
• Driving safety
• Safety committee tips and tools
• Growing a strong safety culture
• Chemical safety and global harmonization

Keynote speaker Jake French is the 26-year-old author of “Life Happens. Live It!” A tragic accident left him a quadriplegic three years ago. French will present “Don't Wait Until You're Broken to Fix It,” which will encourage attendees to shift their perspective and focus.

“I want each audience member to learn what it takes to create clear and compelling communication, so they can act as an ambassador of understanding when they return to their office,” said French. “We will turn one of the biggest stumbling blocks into strength, because I believe clarity is a critical aspect of safety.”
