Washington, DC (CompNewsNetwork) - U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today issued the following statement in response to the announcement that President-elect Barack Obama intends to nominate U.S. Rep. Hilda Solis as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor.
"Congratulations to Rep. Hilda Solis on her pending appointment. The new secretary of labor will inherit a strong legacy on behalf of America's workers, which includes record low fatality, illness and injury rates, record achievements in enforcement recoveries, and strengthened protections for union members.
"The department's career and non-career employees are doing everything possible to ensure a smooth transition to help the next administration in sustaining, and, hopefully, building upon this record of achievement for America's workers."
Editor's Note: Elaine L. Chao is the longest serving U.S. Secretary of Labor since World War II.
