Oklahoma City, OK (WorkersCompensation.com) - Governor Mary Fallin today submitted four nominees for the Oklahoma Workers' Compensation Court: Margaret Bomhoff, Michael McGivern, Brad Taylor, and Carla Snipes. These are the first nominees submitted by Fallin for the Workers' Compensation Court.
“These men and women have over 80 years of combined experience serving in law and, specifically, the field of workers' compensation law,” Fallin said. “As a group, they have worked on the behalf of both employers and employees, and are committed to being a part of a process that is fair, efficient and just. I am confident that each one will dedicate themselves to a strict reading of the letter of the law, and will interpret – not legislate – from the bench. I'm proud of these nominees and I encourage the Senate to quickly confirm them.”
Margaret Anne Bomhoff of Edmond currently works for the Fellers, Snider, Blankenship, Bailey and Tippens law firm in downtown Oklahoma City. She previously worked at both the McClure Law Office and the State Insurance Fund. Bomhoff defends employers and insurance carriers in claims filed at the Oklahoma Workers Compensation Court. She was named the 2011 Workers' Compensation Lawyer of the Year by the peer-reviewed publication Best Lawyers. Bomhoff earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and her law degree from the OU College of Law. She and her husband have three children.
Michael William McGivern currently works for the Tulsa law firm Perrine, McGivern, Redemann, Berry & Taylor, PLLC. He has 20 years of experience in the field of workers compensation law, and was elected by his peers to serve as chairperson of the Oklahoma Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tulsa and a law degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law. McGivern lives in Tulsa with his wife.
Lloyd Bradley Taylor of Tulsa also currently works at the Tulsa law firm Perrine, McGivern, Redemann, Berry & Taylor, PLLC. Since 1994, Taylor has worked in the field of workers' compensation law representing both workers and employers. He has given over 100 presentations on workers' compensation law, and is also a published author on the subject. Taylor earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and his law degree from the University of Tulsa Law School, where he served as Student Bar Association president from 1993 to 1994. He and his wife have three children.
Carla Jo Snipes currently works at The Vassar Law Firm in Oklahoma City. She is the previous owner of Legacy Estate Liquidation, LLC, and has also previously worked at the State Insurance Fund. Snipes has represented clients at more than 2,000 trials, primarily in workers' compensation court. She received a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma City University and a law degree from the OCU School of Law. She and her husband have two children.
Each nominee requires Senate confirmation, as a result of Senate Bill 878, which passed in 2011. If approved, the nominees will serve eight year terms.
