Ohio BWC Formulary Now Mobile

Columbus, OH (WorkersCompensation.com) - The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) outpatient prescription formulary is now accessible via a mobile application available on any wireless communication device and Internet connected computers. The online reference system gives healthcare professionals immediate access to the formulary at the point of care and helps to ensure prescription safety and accuracy. The application is also available to injured workers, employers and the general public.

"Medical providers are vital members of our team dedicated to helping Ohio's injured workers heal so they can return to work as quickly as possible," said BWC Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer. "This application will enhance providers' ability to more quickly and conveniently access the information they need to develop a treatment plan that supports the recovery of workers injured on the job."

The application is available through Epocrates, Inc. and allows users to check formulary status, prior authorization requirements, formulary alternatives, generic substitutes and quantity limits. The software also features a drug reference that includes information such as indication, dosing, contraindications, drug interactions, adverse reactions and cost information. Premium versions include alternative medicines, clinical tables and medical calculators.

BWC adopted its first-ever outpatient medication formulary in September to allow for a thorough clinical review of each new medication, better monitoring and control of inappropriate use.

The formulary is available for download to physicians and anyone wishing to register with Epocrates on their website.
