NYSIF Reminds Employers Of Federal Safety Training Grants

New York, NY (CompNewsNetwork) - The New York State Insurance Fund today reminded its policyholders that the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now accepting applications for grants to provide training and education programs covering targeted topics for workers and employers.

Some $2.75 million in Susan Harwood Targeted Topic Training Grants is available from OSHA for fiscal year 2010. Applications are due August 6, 2010.

Targeted topic areas include crane safety, combustible dust, maritime, oil and gas, and eye safety. The training grants cover a 12-month performance period.

OSHA intends the grants to provide workers and employers with the tools needed to create targeted training programs to ensure safe workplaces.

“This is an excellent opportunity for employers insured with us to utilize grant money to augment the safety resources provided by NYSIF to enhance their workplace safety training programs,” NYSIF Chief Deputy Executive Director Francine James said.

NYSIF is a competitive insurance carrier that sells workers' compensation and disability benefits insurance to any employer doing business in New York State.
