Now Accepting Nominations for the 2023 Sue Ann Head Award

Nashville, TN ( WorkersCompensation.com)  – The Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) has opened the nomination process for the 2023 Sue Ann Head Award for Excellence in Workers’ Compensation. Each year, the BWC recognizes an individual who stands out as a leader in Tennessee’s workers’ compensation system.

Professionals eligible for the award must have contributed significantly to the success, overall fairness, and efficiency of the Tennessee workers’ compensation system in any of the following areas, as an employer or employer’s representative, employee representative, service provider, claims professional, medical provider, or as a legal professional.

The Bureau is accepting nominations now through Friday, March 10, 2023.

“Sue Ann Head led the Division (now Bureau) of Workers’ Compensation for 30 years. She inspired so many people and I am honored to continue the good work that she began, and that former Administrator Hudgens continued,” said Troy Haley, BWC Administrator. “I am looking forward to this year’s nominations!”

Individuals interested in recognizing the outstanding work of a workers’ compensation professional can submit a nomination by filling out this online nomination form.

BWC will announce the finalists this Spring and then the award winner at its annual education conference later in the year. 

About the Sue Ann Head Award

The Sue Ann Head Award is in memory of the former Administrator of the Division of Workers' Compensation. Until February 2011, Sue Ann led with her mind and taught with her heart. Her career with state government spanned more than 45 years: beginning as a secretary, then later appointed as the assistant director, and then director. She led the Tennessee Workers' Compensation Division through reforms in 1992 and 2004 which introduced several programs like Benefit Review, Case Management, Utilization Review, Uninsured Employers Fund. Sue Ann passed away in 2018.
