Niagara Falls Man Charged With Workers' Comp Fraud

Niagara Falls, NY (CompNewsNetwork) - Aaron Christopher Lampkin, 49, of 3660 Ely Ave., Niagara Falls, was arrested Friday for submitting altered medical records in an unsuccessful attempt to collect $2,298 in workers' compensation benefits, the New York State Insurance Department reported.

Lampkin was charged with insurance fraud and attempted grand larceny for sending the altered records to the New York State Insurance Fund. The altered documents falsely indicated he was hospitalized at Niagara Falls Medical Center from July 10, 2007, through Aug. 1, 2007, when he was actually only hospitalized for seven days. He was never paid the benefits.

Niagara Falls Police Detective William Smith arrested Lampkin following an investigation by Ross McQuade of the Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau, the New York State Insurance Fund and the Inspector General's Office of the Workers' Compensation Board.

Lampkin was released in his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing scheduled Jan. 26. If he is found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison. The case is being prosecuted by Niagara County Assistant District Attorney Joseph Scalzo.
