Navigating The Shifting Winds Of Workers’ Comp At 98th Annual Convention

Madison, WI (WorkersCompensation.com) - Workers' compensation, unlike many other social insurance programs, has remained under state or provincial authority in the United States and Canada. This allows the system to respond directly to stakeholder needs and local issues. However, jurisdictional authorities appreciate that sharing with peers can lead to effective solutions, while saving time and resources.

For almost a century, leaders have come together through the IAIABC to raise attention on important issues including opioid abuse, workforce demographic changes, physician dispensing, risk retention vulnerabilities, and many more. Agency managers and industry experts will carry on this tradition as they come together for the 98th Annual Convention on October 1-4, 2012 in Newport, Rhode Island. “IAIABC programs are not only rich in educational content, but also present diverse system perspectives. Our administrative processes may be different, but our goals and challenges are the same: ensuring proper and timely benefits to workers at a reasonable cost to employers” comments Christine Baker, Director, California Department of Industrial Relations.

Exploring the theme, Navigating the Shifting Winds of Workers' Compensation, the conference program will address current and emerging issues. Hear innovations in chronic pain management and partnership programs to reduce misclassification. At the same time, better understand external forces that will impact workers' compensation including healthcare quality initiatives, privacy and data security, and occupational health and safety issues in the new workforce. Presentations, moderated discussion forums, and informal conversation will give participants valuable information and tools to positively shape the future of workers' compensation policy. “At the IAIABC, I have the opportunity to interact with key managers in workers' compensation administration, this access makes the meeting a must attend for those of us in regulatory affairs”   says Ken Eichler of The Reed Group.

“The Rhode Island Division of Workers' Compensation looks forward to welcoming the workers' compensation community to Newport” remarks Matt Carey, Assistant Director. “The educational value is high and we can't wait to share some local fun including a traditional New England clam bake.” Newport, a renowned Maritime capital, has many diversions for conference attendees to enjoy including the International Tennis Hall of Fame, opulent Newport Mansions, and many outdoor pursuits.
