Missouri Insurance Director Elected To NAIC Executive Committee

Jefferson, MO (CompNewsNetwork) - John M. Huff, director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration, was elected June 6 as vice president of the Midwest Zone of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. In this position, Huff will serve on the NAIC's Executive Committee, the leadership body for the national association.
"State-based regulation is the key to our nation's system of insurance oversight, and it has protected consumers for well over a century," said Huff. "It will be a privilege to help lead the NAIC, which provides invaluable support, resources and expertise to help state insurance regulators fulfill their mission."
Huff was elected to the vice president position by his fellow insurance regulators from the Midwest Zone, which consists of the insurance departments of Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, North and South Dakota, Michigan and Ohio.
Huff's other leadership positions with the NAIC include:
· NAIC's representative on the U.S. Financial Stability Oversight Council.
· Treasurer of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission
· Vice chair of the Market Regulation and Consumer Affairs (D) Committee
· Chair of the Market Information Systems Task Force
· Chair of the Group Solvency Issues Working Group, part of the NAIC's Solvency Modernization Initiative
The Missouri Department of Insurance is a member of NAIC, as are the corresponding departments of 49 other states, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories.
NAIC serves the needs of consumers and the industry, with an overriding objective of supporting state insurance regulators as they protect consumers and maintain the financial stability of the insurance marketplace. Founded in 1871, NAIC is the oldest association for state officials. Besides its headquarters in Kansas City, the association also has offices in Washington, D.C., and New York City. NAIC has been in Kansas City for 26 years.
