MI Gov Makes Appointments To Boards

“The members joining the boards and commissions will help assist our administration in attaining our goal of reinventing Michigan,” Snyder said.

State Fire Marshal
Ronald Farr of Otsego, is reappointed as the State Fire Marshal.  Farr has served over 40 years in the fire service, 37 years with the charter township of Kalamazoo Fire Department and six years as the fire chief.  He has been a member of the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs, the Michigan Fire Inspectors, International Fire Marshals Association, National Association of State Fire Marshals and the National Fire Protection Association.  His term expires in 2012.

Michigan Waterways Commission
Van W. Snider Jr. and James R. Hansen are appointed to the Michigan Waterways. Snider, of Farmington Hills, is the retired president of the Michigan Boating Industries Association.  He previously served as the executive director for Marine Industries Association and as executive vice president of Herold Boat Company, Inc.  Snider was inducted into the Michigan Society of Association Executives Hall of Fame as well as the Michigan Boating Industries Association Hall of Fame in 2010.  Hansen, of Escanaba, is a founding member and past chairman of the Escanaba Harbor Advisory Committee.  He currently serves as a field supervisor of student teachers at Lake Superior State University.  He previously served in administrative positions in the Upper Peninsula school systems of Escanaba, Gladstone, North Central High School and Stephenson.  The two appointees serve three-year terms expiring Sept. 18, 2013, and are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Workers Compensation Board of Magistrates
David Grunewald, of Grosse Pointe is reappointed to the board.  He previously worked as a senior litigation attorney for CNA Insurance Companies and was awarded the CNA Focus Platinum Award in 2004.  He will serve a four-year term expiring on Jan. 26, 2014, and is subject to advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Capitol Committee
The governor appoints members of the executive office to the Michigan Capitol Committee.  Marsha Quebbeman, director of Administrative Services, Beth Clement, deputy legal counsel of the Legal Division, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and Dick Posthumus, former lieutenant governor and current senior advisor to the governor in Legislative Affairs, will serve on the board.  Members will serve two-year terms expiring in 2012.
