MA Gov. Appoints Brockton Mayor Linda Balzotti

                               Boston, MA (CompNewsNetwork) - Massachusetts Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Joanne F. Goldstein today announced the appointment of Brockton Mayor Linda Balzotti to the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board (MWIB). Mayor Balzotti is the newest member of the MWIB, which advises Governor Deval Patrick on building a strong workforce development system aligned with state education policies and economic development goals. 

"I am pleased to appoint Mayor Balzotti to the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board," said Governor Patrick. "I know she will make valuable contributions to our ongoing efforts to strengthen our workforce and position the Commonwealth for a long term recovery."

"The Workforce Investment Board provides paths to help people retain jobs through excellent training and helps job-seekers to get back to work through a variety of initiatives," said Secretary Goldstein. "I welcome Mayor Balzotti to the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board, and I am confident that she will be a leader in our efforts to create new opportunities."

Balzotti served as a Brockton City Councilor for more than a decade and was the Public Information Officer at Bridgewater State College prior to being elected mayor in 2009. She also served as a member of the Brockton Planning Board. Mayor Balzotti earned her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University.

The MWIB advises the Governor on improving the Massachusetts workforce development system and prepares the annual strategic workforce development plan for the Commonwealth.

The Board, which is overseen by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, is comprised of private sector employers, representatives from state and local government agencies, agency heads, legislators, and representatives from state and local workforce development.
