KY Legislature Sends Bill To Gov For Continuous Use Of AMA Guides Fifth Edition

Frankfort, KY (CompNewsNetwork) - On March 29, 2010, the Kentucky Legislature enrolled House Bill 38, which would retain original provisions; define "Guides to Evaluation of Permanent Impairment" as the 5th edition and chapter 12 of the 2nd edition for psychological impairments; authorize Executive Director to recommend to the General Assembly the adoption of a later edition or portion thereof; provide that Executive Director's recommendation, unless modified by the by the General Assembly, shall become effective on the regular effective date of legislation enacted by the General Assembly; make conforming amendments.
Within one hundred eighty (180) days of publication by the American Medical Association of a new edition of the "Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment," the executive director shall recommend to the General Assembly whether all or a portion of the new edition should be enacted by the General Assembly in order to produce more equitable and accurate ratings of permanent impairment resulting from work-related injuries.
