Kansas Insurance Commissioner Names New P/C Director

Topeka, KS (CompNewsNetwork) - Sandy Praeger, Commissioner of Insurance, has named department veteran Jim Newins as the new Property and Casualty Division Director at the Kansas Insurance Department (KID).

The division is responsible for regulating and reviewing rates of property and casualty (P&C) insurance, including homeowners and auto insurance. The division also audits insurance company annual state tax and fee forms and issues and renews licenses to P&C insurance companies.

Newins began working for KID in 1988 as an automobile policy examiner. He became a policy examiner supervisor in 1994 and was appointed acting director of the division in March 2011. As division director, he replaces Sabrina Wells, who moved out of state.

Newins is a 1987 Washburn University graduate.

“We are fortunate to have Jim's department expertise in his new position,” Commissioner Praeger said. “His knowledge of the department and its P&C Division has made the transitional phase go smoothly and will enhance its operations going forward.”
