IWIF Offers New Workplace Safety Materials On Dangers Of Distracted Driving

Towson, MD (CompNewsNetwork) - IWIF Workers' Compensation Insurance (www.iwif.com) now offers policyholders a free workplace safety poster and safety tip sheet on the dangers of distracted driving. For Maryland drivers, a new law that bans talking on a cell phone while driving becomes law October 1, 2010. The new law “prohibits all Maryland drivers from using a cell phone without a hands-free device while operating a motor vehicle in motion on a street or highway,” according to State officials. Texting while driving was banned in Maryland last year.
“Distracted driving is any activity that distracts a driver from the primary task of driving and increases the risk of crashing,” explains IWIF Loss Control Director Joe Gillian. “While all distractions can endanger driving, texting is considered one of the most dangerous because it involves all three types of distractions – visual, manual and cognitive.”
