Albany, NY - Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on New York State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, in honor of Auburn, New York native and United States Marine Sergeant Jerome C. Bell, Jr., who died on September 19, 2008, in Farah province, Afghanistan.
Sergeant Bell, a member of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California, died while supporting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fellow Marines of Sergeant Bell," said Governor Paterson. "Sergeant Bell's sacrifice to our nation will be honored and valued forever."
Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor and tribute to our State's soldiers who are killed in action.
