“I want to thank Jane for her leadership during a time when the West Virginia's insurance industry faced some of the most challenging issues imaginable,” Gov. Tomblin said. “I am confident that Mike's knowledge and experience gathered over the course of his almost ten years at the Offices of the Insurance Commission, coupled with Jane's legacy of thoughtful leadership skills, makes him well suited to lead the agency and take on the continuing challenges that face the Insurance Commission.”
Riley first joined the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner in October 2001 as an Administrative Services Manager and rose to become Assistant Commissioner of Regulation. During his tenure, Riley served as project manager for the privatization of the state's workers' compensation system.
Riley is a graduate of Marshall University with a Masters of Business Administration and an undergraduate degree of Business Administration in finance.
Mike and his wife, Denise, reside in Charleston with their daughters, Addison and Sarah.
