Company Cited $40,000 For Failure To Pay Employees

Boston, MA (CompNewsNetwork) - Attorney General Martha Coakley's Office has issued two civil citations against Dr. Robert M. DuWors, age 56, of Cotuit, and his company Mashpee Mental Health, located in Mashpee, for violating the Massachusetts Payment of Wage and Record Keeping Laws.  The citations require DuWors and his company to pay nearly $33,000 in restitution to the affected employees as well as $9,000 in penalties to the Commonwealth.

In January 2008, the Attorney General's Office received a complaint from a former employee of Mashpee Mental Health alleging that she had not been paid for work performed as a nurse practitioner.  Investigators from the Attorney General's Fair Labor Division discovered that during the period of March 2006 through November 2008, Dr. DuWors and the company failed to pay five employees in full for all the wages they were owed.  In addition, Dr. DuWors failed to provide the company's payroll records to investigators for inspection.  The five employees held various positions in the company including those of nurse practitioner, clerical personnel, staff psychiatrist, and therapist.

The matter was handled by Assistant Attorney General Anita Maietta and Inspector Paul Gordon, both of Attorney General Coakley's Fair Labor Division.
