CHSWC Releases Draft "Liens Report" For Public Comment

                               Oakland, CA (CompNewsNetwork) - The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation (CHSWC) is pleased to announce that a draft of its “Liens Report” has been released for public comment.  The Commission will consider whether to adopt the draft at its meeting on January 5, 2011.  Public comments are invited by e-mail to CHSWC@dir.ca.gov by January 3, 2011.  The Commission will also hear oral comments at the meeting.

Liens are both a cause and a result of serious distress in the California workers' compensation system.  Approximately 350,000 liens are being filed in 2010.  Nearly two-thirds of them are for medical payment disputes.  Liens impact the cost of compensation, the operation of the courts, and the implementation of public policy.   The “Liens Report” analyzes the lien problem so that policymakers can target proposed solutions.

CHSWC is charged with examining the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational illnesses and to examine those programs in other states.
