King of Prussia, PA (CompNewsNetwork) - Chris J. Main, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., C.Psychol. F.B.Ps.S. has accepted an invitation to serve on the International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) of Expert Clinical Benchmarks (ECB), the research and academic arm of MedRisk, Inc. Main is a professor of clinical psychology, specializing in pain management in the Arthritis Research Campaign National Primary Care Centre at Keele University in Staffordshire, Great Britain and the Co-Chair of the Wellbeing in Work partnership.
ECBs ISAB is an elite panel of world-renowned physical medicine specialists who review treatments, outcomes, and the latest research and literature to ensure that MedRisk brings the highest quality of care to injured workers. The board members examine the business of physical medicine, delving into patient satisfaction and its impact on recovery and on incorporating outcomes into treatment guidelines.
Main brings to the board a great deal of expertise in the bio-psychosocial approach to pain management as well as considerable experience in musculoskeletal injuries and in managing pain in the workplace, said Roger Nelson, PT, PhD, FAPTA, the vice president of ECB. I am confident his contributions will greatly advance our work.
Main has co-authored more than 100 books, book chapters, monographs, and reports. His interests include the psychology of pain (particularly musculoskeletal disorders), the assessment and management of pain and personal injury, development and prevention of long-term disability, the relationship between employee health and occupational performance and musculoskeletal disorders. He also serves on the editorial boards of Physical Therapy and Psychology and Law.
Other accolades include his being awarded Honorary Membership of the British Pain Society and the delivery of many keynote addresses, including the National Assembly of Wales/Dept. of Work & Pensions Consensus Conference (2003); Trauma and Rehabilitation Conference Montreal (2005); University of Calgary Mackid lecture (2006); the annual British Society of Rheumatology Droitwich Lecture (2008); and WorkCover (South Australia) in 2008. He is also delivering the annual British Pain Society lecture in 2010.
Main earned his M.A. (Double Hons) in Mental Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, and General, Experimental and Social Psychology from the University of Glasgow. His M.Phil in Clinical Psychology was completed at Edinburgh, and his Ph.d. in the Faculty of Medicine was obtained at Glasgow. A graduate member and Elected Fellow of the British Psychological Society, he became a Chartered Psychologist in 1990.
