CFO Sink Announces Arrest Of Jacksonville Agent Pocketing Money

Tallahassee, FL (CompNewsNetwork) - Florida CFO Alex Sink today announced that Julia Christina Hadley, Vice President of People's Choice Insurance in Jacksonville, was arrested for the second time in two months on charges of diverting over $50,000 in an ongoing scheme to defraud insurance consumers. The arrest comes on the heels of Hadley's first arrest in April on similar fraud charges, and is especially egregious as Floridians enter into hurricane season and are trying to protect their homes and families.
 
"Hurricane season is upon us, and it would be a tragedy for someone to suffer damage to their property, only to find out they didn't have the insurance coverage they were paying for," said CFO Sink.  "I commend the work of our Department's investigators who cracked down on this fraud and protected future insurance consumers from this scam."
 
Hadley was arrested for the second time after investigators discovered that she habitually accepted policy-binder monies from victims of property and general liability insurance, then failed to bind the policies and kept the proceeds for herself.  The investigation began when Special Investigator Maggie Gattrell of the Department of Financial Services' Division of Agent and Agency Services received information regarding fraudulent activities made by Hadley.  Once criminal violations were suspected, Gattrell transferred the case to the Department's Division of Insurance Fraud. Administrative charges to revoke Hadley's license have been filed.
 
The Division of Insurance Fraud made over 800 insurance fraud-related arrests in the last fiscal year and investigates various forms of fraud in insurance, including health, life, auto, property and workers' compensation insurance.  Depending on the estimated loss amount, the Department will pay up to $25,000 for information directly leading to an arrest and conviction.
