Attorney General Pruitt Charges Bethany Man with Workers' Compensation Fraud

Oklahoma City, OK (WorkersCompensation.com) - Attorney General Scott Pruitt's Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit has filed one charge against a Bethany man for workers' compensation fraud.

According to the charge filed in Oklahoma County District Court, Tony Azar (aka Tony Azarhooshang), 59, submitted a claim with the Workers' Compensation Court on Oct. 25, 2009, for injuries he allegedly sustained on the job after slipping and falling on wet pavement near a swimming pool.

In July 2010, Azar sought medical treatment in Oklahoma City for the alleged injury to his lower back. He claimed the ongoing pain left him unable to be active without assistance and that the injury required him to use a cane when walking.

During an investigation by the AG's Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit, investigators observed Azar performing various activities that were inconsistent with his injury claims. Surveillance video showed Azar without a cane walking, running, driving, bending at the waist and playing pool.

The State believes he obtained in excess of $3,000 in disability benefits to which he was not entitled.

The Attorney General's Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit is the only Oklahoma law enforcement agency dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of workers' compensation fraud. The Unit also helps raise public awareness of fraud in Oklahoma.
