AK Guttenberg To Testify Before Congressional Subcommittee On Pipeline Safety

Juneau, AK (CompNewsNetwork) - On Thursday, Representative David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks) will testify before a congressional subcommittee about safety, pipeline integrity, and employee concerns raised by Alyeska Pipeline Company employees.

“I am honored to speak on behalf of the Alyeska employees who have a deep concern for the safety and integrity of the pipeline, but whose concerns have been largely ignored,” said Rep. Guttenberg. “The issues they've raised about the effects of cost-cutting on pipeline safety and integrity could be costly to Alaska if they continue to fall on deaf ears.”

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure's Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials invited Rep. Guttenberg to testify at a hearing on “The Safety of Hazardous Liquid Pipelines (Part 2): Integrity Management.”

Representative Guttenberg built and maintained oil infrastructure in Alaska as a rank-and-file member of the Laborers Union for over 25 years, much of which was on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Recently, he has led efforts to get Alyeska to listen to employee concerns on pipeline safety issues and internal communications problems.
