Boston, MA (CompNewsNetwork) - Attorney General Martha Coakley's Office has issued a civil citation against Patrick Gilrane, age 47, of Cos Cob, Connecticut, former manager of a home design and manufacturing company, Empyrean International, located in Acton, for failing to pay 13 employees. The citation requires Gilrane to pay the affected workers over $36,400 in restitution, as well as a $5,000 fine to the Commonwealth for the violations.
In November 2008, the Attorney General's Fair Labor Division began an investigation into Empyrean International after receiving several complaints from former employees of the company. The complaints alleged that in October 2008 Empyrean International abruptly shut down and subsequently failed to pay back wages in the forms of accrued vacation, wages and commissions. Investigators discovered that the company had failed to pay 13 employees a total of over $36,400 in back wages.
The case was handled by Assistant Attorney General Lisa Price and investigated by Inspector Angelique Langford, both of Attorney General Coakley's Fair Labor Division.
