What's Good?

DATA Bridges today’s leaders with tomorrow’s talent

The Diversity and Talent Alliance devotes itself to investing in the next generation of professionals who will lead the industry. In doing so, it pairs mentors with mentees to further round out the education of students looking to get a foot in the risk management or workers' compensation industries.

As a side effect, not only do mentees become beneficiaries of their mentors' knowledge, experience, and wisdom, mentors walk away with unexpected gains that go beyond professional returns.

"Mentoring in DATA is powerful because it goes beyond guidance—it’s about connection, growth and empowerment," said Lisa A. Wade of Swift Currie McGhee & Hiers.

Gratitude for the growth element is a sentiment shared by Aon's Jonelle McDaniel.

"Mentorship is a powerful tool for growth, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve as a DATA mentor," McDaniel said. "It has been a rewarding experience to spend time connecting with such a remarkable mentee."

Debra Livingston of ReEmployAbility finds in DATA mentorship an avenue for stewardship of the industry.

"Being a mentor with DATA is about shaping more than just careers, but the future of the workers’ compensation industry—bringing in new talent, fostering diversity, and inspiring lasting impact through partnership and education," Livingston said.

The sign of something working well often boils down to whether people want to stick with it, and that's something the DATA mentorship program has provided for mentors.

Kerri G. Crosby of Rollins, Inc. has been one of those who have been around since the beginning and has found it personally beneficial.

"Being part of the DATA program since its inception as a mentor has been not only rewarding but also a wonderful experience," Crosby said. "It has allowed me to not only meet some exceptional young professionals who will be a great addition to our industry but also seeing their enthusiasm in learning about our industry has been phenomenal."

For Crosby, like the DATA program itself, the work has just begun.

"I know those who have been through the program thus far and those yet to come will be a great asset to our industry as those of our sunset in our careers," she said. "I hope to be asked to continue to be part of such an exceptional organization."
