Allegedly exaggerated extent of injury in workers' comp claim
Frankfort, KY (CompNewsNetwork) - A Whitley City woman will be in McCreary District Court on Aug. 7 for a preliminary hearing on charges that she falsified a workers' compensation claim by exaggerating the extent of her injuries. The case was investigated by the Kentucky Department of Insurance Fraud Investigation Division.
Connie Sellers Redmond reported that she was injured while working at Quest Community Services. When filing for workers' compensation benefits, Redmond allegedly lied about the severity of her injuries. The workers' compensation insurance carrier, Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance, paid more than $2,000 in temporary total disability benefits to which she was not entitled.
She has been charged with one felony count of insurance fraud. If found guilty, Redmond faces a prison term of one to five years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine.
The Department of Insurance is an agency of the Public Protection Cabinet.
