University of Arizona Student Receives 2025 Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia Scholarship

Kids’ Chance of America is pleased to announce that University of Arizona freshman Miguel Cisneros has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia Scholarship.
A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Miguel plans to major in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, with a goal of someday working in national security and defense at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
“Because of Kids’ Chance, kids like me can go to college,” he said. “I think it’s really important for kids to get out there and see the world and have new experiences. If I hadn’t received this scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to come to Arizona. It really pushes you to do better and shoot for higher goals.”
Miguel’s journey has been far from easy. After the loss of his father in a work-related accident, Miguel found himself navigating not only grief but also the financial challenges of building a future without the safety net on which most of his peers rely. 
The Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia Scholarship Fund was established in 2019 to open doors for students like Miguel—young people who have faced tremendous loss yet continue to persevere. Thanks to the generosity of Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia, this four-year scholarship eases the burden of financial uncertainty and empowers students to pursue their dreams with confidence.
"Miguel embodies the spirit of this award: courage in the face of hardship, perseverance in pursuit of a goal and hope for a brighter future," Kids' Chance of America CEO Chris Letsos said. "We are proud to stand beside him as he begins this next chapter, and we cannot wait to see the impact he will make at the University of Arizona and beyond."
