Texas Gov. Perry Names Bordelon Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation

                               

Austin, TX (CompNewsNetwork) -Texas Gov. Rick Perry has named Rod Bordelon of Austin the commissioner of the Workers’ Compensation Division at the Texas Department of Insurance for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2009. The Texas Department of Insurance’s Division of Workers’ Compensation regulates the workers’ compensation system in Texas, ensuring that injured workers receive necessary benefits so that they may return to work quickly and that workers’ compensation costs are kept at a reasonable level for Texas employers.

“Rod has been a tireless advocate for consumer interests on matters involving various types of insurance in this state, including workers compensation insurance,” Gov. Perry said. “He will be a tremendous asset as the state continues to implement improvements in the workers’ compensation system.”

Bordelon most recently served as public counsel and executive director at the Office of Public Insurance Counsel.  He is an advisory member of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission and board member of the Insurer Guaranty Association.  Bordelon is also a member of the State Bar of Texas, and American and Austin Bar associations.  He is a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and has volunteered with Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and Caritas.  Bordelon received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from South Texas College of Law. He replaces Albert Betts of Austin.
