Roxbury, Connecticut Woman Charged With Workers’ Compensation Fraud

                               

Hartford, CT (CompNewsNetwork) - Michelle Stuart, age 42, of Baker Road, Roxbury, Connecticut was arrested today on a warrant charging her with one count of Workers' Compensation Fraud, a felony carrying a maximum prison term of 20 years.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Ms. Stuart has been involved in day-to-day operation of Stuart's Greenhouse in Roxbury for the past five years while collecting workers' compensation benefits.

She has collected more than $200,000 in wage and medical benefits since suffering a work-related injury in January 1988 while working for Laidlaw Transit, Inc., the warrant states.

In a May 15, 2006, disability affidavit, Ms. Stuart answered "no" to questions asking if she was employed or if she had any other earnings, according to the warrant.

Ms. Stuart was released on a written promise to appear in Bantam Superior Court, G.A. No. 18, on August 21, 2008.

The case will be prosecuted by the Workers' Compensation Fraud Control Bureau of the Chief State's Attorney's Office in Rocky Hill.

The charge against Ms. Stuart is merely an accusation, and she is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
