Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland To Chair National Market Analysis Working Group

Oklahoma City,OK  (CompNewsNetwork) - The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)  announced Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland will chair the Market Analysis Working Group (MAWG).

"Commissioner Holland sets an example of integrity, responsibility and accountability," said Montana State Auditor John Morrison, who chairs the NAIC's Market Regulation and Consumer Affairs (D) Committee. "She is not afraid to ask tough questions, holding companies and regulators accountable for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the market regulation process."

In her role as chair of MAWG, Holland will continue to raise the profile of the Working Group by emphasizing the importance of collaborative analysis and examinations between states. MAWG provides policy direction, assists in coordinating multi-state collaborative actions, facilitates interstate communication, and recommends appropriate corrective actions to multistate problems by promoting the use of cost-effective responses.

"Market analysis is one of the most challenging and important tasks of regulators," Holland said. "Ensuring that oversight protects consumers while being fair to insurers is critical to the ongoing work of the NAIC."

In 2008 Holland is committed to looking for ways to reduce the number of duplicative examinations, improve collaborative examinations, solidify group procedures and timelines, and ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the Working Group.

Holland acknowledged the work of the Working Group's previous chairs, Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler and Nebraska Deputy Insurance Commissioner Bruce Ramge. "Mike and Bruce have worked hard to address current market conduct issues, and I commend their commitment and effort on these vital issues," Holland said. "I look forward to continuing to build on their foundation in support of state-based insurance regulation."

In office since 2005, Holland is the first woman elected insurance commissioner in Oklahoma. She has more than two decades of insurance industry experience.
